Mandurah Car Park

Project:

Jointly funded by the State and Federal Governments as part of the Urban Congestion Fund the Mandurah Station Multi Story Car Park is the first Metronet multi-storey car park to be opened and is designed to help alleviate parking issues experienced by patrons of the Mandurah Line. More than 70 per cent of Mandurah Station passengers currently travel to the station by car, with the existing car parks reaching 90 per cent capacity by around 9am on weekdays.

The design and impetus for the project was a response to the above and to predicted passenger numbers which are expected to grow by almost 50 per cent by 2031. This car park will help future-proof Mandurah Station as more Metronet projects come online. The new facility adds an extra 700 bays to the station’s parking capacity.

The new car park has three levels (ground plus two storeys, including an open-air top-deck), SmartParker machines, provision for future electric-car charging stations and a range of security and safety measures. It also features artwork that celebrates local native flora and fauna with the centrepiece being a floating metal fabrication artwork from South West artist Ian Mutch in collaboration with Bindjareb Noongar artist Corey Ugle, which incorporates native species such as leaves from Tuart trees, Mulloway estuary fish and Black Cockatoos.

It was, therefore, very important that the surfacing was in keeping with the modern and impressive design and was durable and safe.

Antiskid’s expert staff liaised closely with the designers, Public Transport Authority and the builders to provide a solution which addressed all requirements.

Solution:

Antiskid Industries recommended installing the Deckshield Rapide Surfacing System to the various areas. Deckshield is a vibrant, durable protective coating system which enhances the visual appearance, improves light reflectivity, assists in regulating traffic movement through delineation and other symbols and ensures that ongoing structural maintenance is kept to an absolute minimum.

Deckshield is exceptionally hard wearing with high durability and abrasion resistance allowing it to stand up to heavy traffic, fuel and chemical spillages. It provides for a wide range of anti slip finishes, offers a wide variety of colours and styles and is crack-resistant, lengthening the car park’s lifecycle and minimising future reinstallation costs as well as disruption and downtime. Deckshield also uses cutting edge resin technology enabling rapid application and early return to service with minimal downtime and disruption.

Due to the expertise and experience of our 30+ years of operation Antiskid were able to complete the entire surface area of approximately 30,000m2 in weeks and in spite of unfavourable weather conditions. And Antiskid were able to install a demarcation system to highlight parking bays and specialised zones as well as to regulate traffic movement around the parking facility.

All told, an outstanding solution.
