Graylands Hospital Kitchen

Kitchen Refurbishment

Kitchen Flooring Repair

Requirements:

Commercial kitchens have to be resistant in a demanding environment. The floor has to withstand impact from utensils, constant trolley wheeled traffic, chemical attack from food acid and cooking oils as well as thermal shock from hot water spills and washdown. In particular, kitchens in hospitals are in constant use so the floor has to be reliable as a surface to work on in this environment.

Graylands Hospital was faced with a significant problem with their existing floor. The tiled floor from the original build was failing. Tiles were becoming dislodged and the grout was degrading causing operational hygiene and safety issues. The client wanted to refurbish the floor with a seamless durable floor that had a proven history in the food industry.

Solution:

After consideration of all the options they selected Sikafloor PurCem system.

PurCem is a seamless polyurethane/cement based floor that is resistant to all of the above mentioned. As well as being fast to install, it is low in VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) being water based and suitable around foodstuff and is a food grade system.

Antiskid Industries were the recommended contractor for the project. The floor was installed in stages to minimise disruption to the production of the kitchen. The result is a sound, tough, seamless floor that has been in operation for 3 years without any signs of damage and is expected this will still be the case for many years to come.

Graylands Hospital management are now able to focus on the tasks of providing vital services to patients and not worry about problems related to a failing floor in the kitchen.
