Local College Balcony
ANTISKID AT WORK
> Surface Repairs and Rectification
> Slip Resistant Surfacing System, Low Maintenance
The 1st Floor balcony outside the Library at this prestigious local college was badly failing and dangerous due to poor drainage. It was also unsightly and a slip hazard. Antiskid were engaged to provide an appropriate solution which needed to be aesthetically pleasing, long lasting, easily maintainable and providing long term slip resistant qualities. The window for works was necessarily short due to the constant requirement for access via the balcony. Another issue was the location close to rooms that were utilised for senior examinations over school holidays.
Due to the uncertain history of previous works it was recommended to remove the entire failing substrate to determine the extent of any underlying issues. The Antiskid team did this working around noise restrictions to minimise disruption. The team had to remove 3 layers of previous repair attempts. They then installed Leveltop decking to build-up the area and create falls to drains to ensure correct levels and function. The surface was then ground down to create an appropriate bond surface and was primed prior to the application of Omnigrip Deco in the client approved colour. The final step was the application of a Polyurethane sealer to provide Ultra-Violet resistance as well as assisting with ongoing maintenance and cleanliness.
An outstanding result for all concerned with long term beauty and minimal disruption.
